Legal Alien: A Scotsman in Montreal

Friday Fun

A cross-country skier gets caught in a snowstorm and is facing a complete whiteout. A heavy fall has broken his compass and the swirling winds and snowdrifts soon make him los his bearings. After wandering blindly for a few hours he is badly in need of shelter when suddenly, in a break in the storm, he spots an old cabin in the distance. Using his last ounces of strength he stumbles in to the cabin exhausted. Fumbling around in his pack he finds a pack of matches of which only one is usable and tries to look around the dark room to find some heat. In the murky light he makes out a paraffin lamp, a gas stove and a fireplace ready stocked with kindling. What should he light first?
